WCC Association and Playing Roles
Guru recalls playing at Wadakkanchery ground from around 1973–74 onwards. He identifies himself as a batter, with middle-order batting and ground/event support among his roles.
A First League Match to Remember
He remembers his first WCC league match at Thopp Stadium, Thrissur, possibly in 1974. Kannanji came to his home that morning, obtained his parents’ permission, and brought Guru and his neighbour Puzhankara Krishnan into the team when player availability was uncertain.
Kannanji — A Memory of Kindness
After the match, the team stopped at Triveni Hotel. Guru had no cash with him; Kannanji noticed and quietly paid for his onion dosa — a gesture Guru still remembers with affection and gratitude.
WCC Veterans Involvement
Guru confirms that he was involved in forming WCC Veterans. He recalls Kannanji, Sudhakaran, KV, Soman, Murali, GS, Sivaraman and others taking leading roles.
Early WCC Milestones and Participation
He remembers WCC beginning to participate in league matches and small local tournaments around 1973–74, including events at Thiroor and Cherpu, and recalls regular evening play at the ground.
Personal Reflection
Guru cherishes the evening cricket, humour and friendships at the ground and hopes for an annual get-together and evening match to celebrate those golden memories.
